The project is about American historical lessons that we have ignored as a society. We pushed the buffalo to the brink of extinction, and with WWII we saw a glimpse of what our end might look like, combining the two I hoped to make an interesting image that would encourage dialogue about such mistakes.

Wow, very sad to see InBerkeley abruptly atrophy and splinter like this. I really appreciated your efforts to provide authoritative hyperlocal coverage that none of the local MSM outlets or upstarts (like SF Appeal or SFist, which have weak East Bay coverage) could ever touch. This just seems like a huge step backwards for our civic-minded, tech-savvy community. I'm sure you had your reasons, but please reconsider a relaunch at a later date if possible, and please accept guest submissions if offered. Heck, if you added a PayPal button, I'd gladly donate to support continued publication!

Jeez, everyone, lay off Dave and Lance. I'm sure they'd be happy to give you your subscription fee back. Oh, wait, there wasn't one.

Demanding that people continue doing something that they don't want to do anymore, and they have been doing for free...that's a pretty amazing attitude.

So long, InBerkeley, we hardly knew ye.

<a href="#comment-3687" rel="nofollow">@Thomas Lord</a>
Yes, I do think we discriminate against teens in these areas (remember that numbers of teenagers are now being prosecuted "as adults" for some crimes). That does not necessarily mean we should not. However, I think we need to examine the impact our rules have on them. I guess most of them feel they are being watched throughout their entire time in a store. EZ Stop Deli and Doggie High allow any and all students in. They may lose some to theft, but they have decided that the income from the students (and perhaps less loss due to students appreciating these businesses not banning them) outweighs any theft.

We also get into gray areas where people are not identifiable: When I entered UCB, I looked like I was about 15 or 16. How would a business owner deal with me if s/he told me "you can't come in here because there's already two high school students"? I could simply say "No, I'm not a high school student." As a non-minor, I would not be legally obligated to prove my age/status (e.g. it is fairly commonly understood that the "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" signs to not actually allow a business owner to do that).

Kudos Ladies, Great Job. You did a wonderful thing, I glad you followed your instincts and did not give up. We need more people to get involve as you two did. Thank you for saving those girls lives.

God Bless you both.

Well, I just find it annoying that the sites seem to be about the same thing (hyperlocal Berkeley). You've developed a cadre of authors, and InBerkeley has, as you point out, 429 posts. Why create something new that isn't really that different? If one of the two of you has "diverged," let that person go off and do something on their own, but let InBerkeley continue to thrive. To say "InBerkeley comes to an end" implies, at least to me, that you are NOT encouraging current authors to continue to post. Why not just let it continue to live? The cost of a web site is only a buck or two a month, so it's clearly not fiscal.

Berkeley Citizen. I removed your comments.

It's a clearly stated policy of the site that it doesn't (didn't) welcome abusive comments or attacks on individuals. It also doesn't welcome comments that spread untruths. The site didn't close because of one picture.

<a href="#comment-3825" rel="nofollow">@Graham Freeman</a>
No, it isn't. A fork implies two paths. InBerkeley's path has ended. I've started another site, <a href="http://www.berkeleyside.com/" rel="nofollow">Berkeleyside</a>.
