Street art raises questions

September 25th, 2009

My teenage son and I like this piece of street art which is on the old photo-processing shop on the corner of Ashby and Telegraph. It puts us in mind of the notoriously successful British street artist Banksy.

We’d like to know more about it — the artist, the message? Anyone?

Update:  Thanks to reader Cleita we have the answer we were looking for. The artist is Jesse Hazelip and you can find out more about him and his work on his website here.

I’m still trying to figure out the connection between a B-17 flying fortress and a buffalo/bison.

Who won in the battle between the bison and the folks who brought us WWII? Time will tell. Currently doesn’t look so good for either.

Perhaps it’s a commentary on the evolution of the U.S. part of North America from land of the bison to land of the military-industrial complex?

The project is about American historical lessons that we have ignored as a society. We pushed the buffalo to the brink of extinction, and with WWII we saw a glimpse of what our end might look like, combining the two I hoped to make an interesting image that would encourage dialogue about such mistakes.
