Three Berkeley post offices on closure list

July 30th, 2009

postservice

Three Berkeley post office stations or branches have been identified as candidates for closure as part of a USPS consolidation initiative.  The three branches facing closure are:

  • Park Station: 2900 Sacramento St.
  • Landscape Station: 1831 Solano Ave.
  • South Berkeley Station: 3175 Adeline St.

This list does not mean these branches will be closed, just that they have been identified for consideration because of their size, proximity to other facilities, space allocation and ability to generate the greatest cost savings.  No changes are expected to be announced or take place before Oct. 2, according to the Postal Regulatory Commission, an independent federal agency representing community interests. The process is still in the early stages, according to a postal spokesman.

Park Station and South Berkeley Station are both pretty vital to the communities surrounding them. They both, of course, suffer from the neglect of their neighborhoods in development and economic planning activities.

Rather than closing the stations they should find better staff so people want to use them. The staff at the landscape station were disrespectful, rude, mean, slow, and frequently put up a closed sign so they wouldn’t have to take mail.

please close this post office! I’ve been going there for my employers PO box for 10 years and it stinks, the people are rude and don’t help customers, it stinks, and at christmas when they do get lines they leave one slow ass clerk working. Oh yeah, and it stinks!!

No, no, no… please keep it open! I don’t want all of those postal customers to end up going to my friendly neighborhood UPS Store on Solano. Ever since I discovered them years ago, I haven’t had to step foot into that hell hole called the post office!
