
Petrale sole with Dungeness crab mashed potatoes and asparagus and citrus butter, or Ahi tuna tartare with avocado, vanilla bean, chorizo and scallions? Just two choices on the menu at Five, which opens tonight in the newly renovated Hotel Shattuck Plaza.
The restaurant is under the stewardship of “big-name” chef Scott Howard who, according to Eater SF, is “making his anticipated return to the kitchen after his eponymous restaurant shuttered (followed by a brief stint at Larkspur’s Left Bank)”.

Engineering students at UC Berkeley recently showcased a slick solar race car clad in photovoltaic panels that looks for all the world like UFO hovering a few feet over the earth.
Dubbed the GoldRush, the vehicle is completely powered by the sun’s rays and is capable of hitting an impressive top speed of 50 miles per hour without using a single drop of gas.

Seven Berkeley fire engines responded to a two-alarm fire at the Rus-Tel apartment block at 2321 Russell at lunchtime today. According to police on the scene, no one was hurt. The smell of burning was distinct for several blocks around the building, but the Berkeley Fire Department had the fire well under control shortly after arriving.
