Mrs. Dalloways is expanding into the ex-pharmacy which will include a cafe. Ozzie would be happy to see a new and great (and fairly local) use of the old space. He would not be so happy about the general trend of our Elmwood. Fewer neighborhood stores, mostly one big restaurant/dress shop. Ozzie's leadership on commercial rent control and use quotas was instrumental in keeping the Elmwood somewhat neighborly for many years.

Yes, my wife brought me up short for calling it forbidding. I like wine, but the Elmwood Vintage Berkeley is a big, bare white space with the wine ranged along the walls. I don't find it inviting, even if the wine is very good.

The wine store is the Elmwood arm of the fantastic Vintage Berkeley wine store. Definitely worth a peek in. (Especially on Saturday afternoon, when they have tastings.)
