New businesses in formerly vacant storefronts

June 11th, 2009

Lately we’ve been showing newly vacant storefronts. In this walk I show two recently empty stores that have new businesses. One a new restaurant and the other new Internet cafe. Crepevine replaces Starbucks and Philz Coffee replaces Cafe de la Paz. Both are at near intersection of Cedar and Shattuck.

Crepevine (what replaced Starbucks)

Coming soon -- Philz Coffee

Can’t wait to see what’s gonna fill all the space on the east side of shattuck there. My friends think the old elephant pharmacy spot would make for a good brew pub.

It would a huge fracking brew pub!

How about a Whole Foods? Wouldn’t that kick ass?

Yeah, the speedy reoccupation of Crepevine is heartening. I’m still waiting for some store to fill in the giant space previously occupied by Elephant Pharmacy across the street. Whole food would be cool. Trying to think what would be viable with foot-traffic and small amount of street parking.

This might be heresy in the Gourmet Ghetto, but what about a giant chain restaurant, like Sphagetti Factory? ;) College students love that restuarant….

I think that would be cool. Actually there really isn’t a great place for just a plate of spaghetti and meatballs. I’m thinking the kind of plate you get in Queens or Boston.
